Are you nervous about birth? Looking for learning opportunities to have a positive transition into parenthood? Overwhelmed with feeding a newborn? Want to meet other parents? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you are in the right place.
My name is Lizeth (aka Lizzy) and I have been supporting families in Southern Oregon since 2015. My passion for pregnancy and birth began when I started working for WIC (a Public Health nutrition program) in 2015 where I supported perinatal families by providing perinatal nutrition and infant feeding counseling. Since then, I have certified as an infant massage instructor, a birth doula, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I love helping families love their births because happy births result in happier and healthier parents and babies. I work closely with community organizations to bring support and educational opportunities to you. After all, “it takes a village to raise a child.” The moment a baby is born, a parent is also born. May your transition into parenthood be filled with love, snuggles, adventures, growth and grace.
In my free time I love to explore international cuisines, travel, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy nature with my sweet husband, Luis.
A doula is a professional birth companion who provides physical, emotional and informational support during the perinatal period. A doula works for you, not the healthcare system, but collaborates with your medical team and your support team. Your perinatal care provider (OB, midwife, etc.) ensures you have a safe birth, your loved ones provide love and affection, and I (as a doula) focus on creating a safe space where your physical and emotional needs are met. When all of these pieces come together, the result is an empowering birth. I aim to protect your autonomy (your right to be in charge of your birth) while providing evidence based information so that you can make fully informed decisions. I can assist you with exploring your birth preferences, help you prepare your mind, body and team for not just a safe birth but a GREAT birth. Positive birth experiences contribute to better long term health outcomes for birthing people and infants. When birthing people feel empowered by their birth, they step into the parenting role with more confidence, reducing the risk of post-partum depression and anxiety.
Your partner and or support team are an integral and irreplaceable part of a positive birth. They provide intimate affection a doula cannot. However, a doula brings skills that she has acquired from her education, evidence based information, and experience to support your unique birth. The role of the doula is never to take the place of husbands or supporting loved ones in labor, but rather to complement and enhance their experience. Your partner is your perfect intimate advocate but they may become overwhelmed, stressed and tired during labor. A doula can help reduce the anxiety and stress in the birthing space, allow the partner and other loved ones to get periods of rest, and offer guidance to provide support to the birthing person. A doula is an extra set of hands who also has access to an abundant wealth of resources and tools to bridge the gap between you and the healthcare system and community organizations, saving you time, energy and resources.
